My elder millennials will remember: Before there was Zendaya to reliably shut down the Met Gala red carpet every year, there was Sarah Jessica Parker. The Sex and the City and And Just Like That star has been attending the Met Gala since 1995, when she wore a dress from a thrift shop and did her own glam for the event. If only that version of SJP could see how she shows up now: in a custom couture gown and headpiece by British designer Richard Quinn, accompanied by an entire lion’s worth of hair extensions.
The dress is built atop a wire frame, resulting in an hourglass shape perfectly appropriate to the night’s theme “The Garden of Time”. There are crystals, there’s lace appliqué, there are tights with crystals and lace appliqué, and it’s all topped off with a fascinator—a favorite SJP accessory—that alone would be enough to give most of us a case of tech neck. But this is the Met Gala, and so Parker finished off the look with a small army’s worth of hair extensions.
