Typically when we see Sabrina Carpenter on a red carpet or onstage, she’s wearing her blonde hair in a big, full bombshell blowout. That bouncy blowout, paired with her long curtain bangs, has become part of the Sabrina Carpenter aesthetic, and she rarely deviates from the formula… until now!
For the Variety Power of Young Hollywood event on August 8, Carpenter swapped her signature blowout for beachy waves. (The musician is on the cover of the industry magazine’s latest issue.) Instead of long hair spilling over her shoulders like a ‘90s supermodel, Carpenter wore her hair pulled up and back in effortless waves, with two sections of hair pulled out from the loose updo around her face. Even her bangs were wavy! The rest of her hair was gathered into a low, loose knot at the nape of her neck for a romantic, beachy California girl moment. We’re so used to seeing her in her flirty blowout style that this feels like a totally new side of Sabrina.

While she may have deviated from her usual hairstyle, Carpenter did stick to her go-to pairing of glowy skin and flushed cheeks. (She’s been a major factor in turning blush into the hottest trend of the summer.) In keeping with the summery, golden girl vibes of her hair, she swapped the pinky-nude lip gloss in favor of a terracotta shade, which looked gorgeous with her beaded, bedazzled yellow gown.
We have seen Carpenter’s waves before. In July, she wore her hair wavy while on vacation in France and skipped makeup while enjoying a day on the beach. Prior to that, she walked the runway for Vogue World with her hair covered by summer’s second-biggest trend: the scarf. Carpenter’s new album Short n’ Sweet is dropping in just a few weeks, so perhaps she’ll go wavy more often while promoting the new music. Fingers crossed!
