Holly Marie Combs is charmed to have known Shannen Doherty.

In the wake of Doherty’s death, the Charmed alum looked back on her longtime bond with her former costar, calling her onscreen sister her “better half of 31 years.”

“There is a hollow in my chest and I can’t seem to catch my breath,” Combs began in a July 15 Instagram post. “A part of me is missing even though I know exactly what you would say to me right now. I know exactly what you would tell me to do right now.”

The 50-year-old went on to share how Doherty’s “undying spirit” have inspired so many people throughout the years, including Combs’ three kids with ex David Donoho: Finley, 20, Riley, 17, and Kelley, 15.

“They will walk with your sense of purpose and pride,” Combs continued in her tribute to Doherty. “They will be truthful and stand up for what is right. No matter what and zero f–ks given. Your fire will live on in them and the many other Charmed ones you helped raise.”

She added of the former Beverly Hills, 90210 star, “A fierce fighter til the end. My most ardent champion. My loyal protector. My best friend. You taught me the meaning of family. You were and will be forevermore my sister. I love you.”

Doherty passed away on July 13 at the age of 53 following a lengthy battle with stage 4 breast cancer. She spent her final days recording House of Halliwell—a Charmed rewatch podcast—with Combs and Drew Fuller, according to their former castmate Brian Krause.

“We were lucky enough to record four episodes in the last week or so,” Krause share on the show’s July 14 episode. “And Shannen was just so motivated and determined to help make this show a success and give all of you more insight into what it was in the making and the fun and the behind-the-scenes of Charmed.”

The actor added that Doherty’s death has “shocked” and “devastated” the Charmed community.

“Too young,” Krause shared, “too talented, too loving, too grateful, too early.”
